History

BSC (Building Services Consultants (Pvt) Ltd) was started in 1992. It is the brainchild of late Mr Tissa Gunasena, who was a mechanical engineer. In 1998 he accompanied his wife to UK to follow a post graduate degree at Heriot-Watt university Edinburgh, Scotland , UK. After successful completion of MSC (Building Services) degree ,BSC ventured in to more fields in Building Services engineering like acoustics ,energy saving in buildings ,recycling of water and Solar power etc. Mr.Gunasena also won prestigious awards in the field of building service engineering, LOW ENERGY INTENSITY DESIGN AWARD at annual award ceremony of CEB in 2000. His design at Tropical Villas hotel , Beruwala won an award from SriLanka Institute Of Architects in 1995. Mr.Gunasena has involved his knowledge in designing Parliament building, Conference hall, Education Building ,Society of Health Education and designing many projects of Republic of Maldives. He also designed Cultural Centre of Sultan Quaboos University, in Oman.

He used his contacts in uk to start Lanka Association of Building Service Engineers (LABSE) which is liaised with CIBSE in UK . Mr.Gunasena also played a major role in starting the Diploma and MSC course in Building Service Engineering at Moratuwa University which enabled many Sri Lankan engineers to obtain post graduate qualifications locally. At BSC also he encouraged his juniors to obtain post graduate qualifications in building services engineering field, who are doing well in the field of building services engineering now.

Major Achivements

Involvement in the electrical design work of the Parliament, the Conference Hall and the Ministry of Education Building, all in the Republic of Maldives in February, 1996.
Involvement in the hotel project 'Tropical Villas', which won an excellence award - open category from the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 1995. It was a 53 bed-roomed hotel, completed in the southern coast of Sri Lanka in 1993. This Project has been listed in the 1997 edition of the “Award Winning Architecture” magazine, published in New York.
Winning a merit award for ‘Low Energy Intensity Design ‘ at the annual awards ceremony of CEB for ‘Hotel Tropical Villas’, at Beruwala.
